Luke 2 : 1-7
The Birth of Jesus
" In those days Caesar Augustus issue a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. ( This was the first census that took place while Quirinus was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea , to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary , who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there , the time came for the baby to be born , and she gave birth to her firstborn , a son. She wrapped him in clothes and placed in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."
Conversation : If you could spend an entire day with someone , who would be and why ?
Have you ever gone
out with someone special ? How long did you prepare before you went out ? Some people take hours preparing for special outing. Your hair has to be just right, your clothes just fashionable enough , your breathe smelling sweet enough.
What if someone very special was going to visit your home? What if you know in advance ? You would clean the house , fix all the broken thing in your house , order the best food.
The Jews knew Jesus would be coming over 500 years before his birth. Last week we talked about prophesy and read in Matthew about a prophesy that was told to Joseph . Other prophesies pointed right to the place where Jesus was going to be born, yet the Jewish people did nothing.
In Bethlehem, no advance plan were made by men to receive Jesus Christ. No one save a room for him at the hotel. A baby bed was quickly made out of an animal feeder. Rags(torn clothes) were used to wrap him up.
Last week we read about the angel visiting Joseph. At the time of angel visited , they lived in a c
ity called Nazareth. The next story happens after the angel spoke to Joseph.

Conclusion
Preparations are now being made by Christians all over the world to celebrate Christmas. Part of that preparation is the preparing of our hearts to receive him. Let us not become so busy that we forget to prepare our hearts. Jesus is going to come again. The prophesies say he is going to come. We must be ready.
Oswald Chambers said, " The battle is not against sin or difficulties or circumstances , but against being so absorbed in work that we are not ready to face Jesus Christ at every turn. The only way a worker can keep true to God is by being ready for the Lord ' s surp
rise visits. Readiness means a right relationship to God and a knowledge of where we are at present. Be ready for the sudden surprise visits of God Now there were in the same country , shepherd living out in fields , keeping watch over their flockby night . And behold , an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. The heavenly announcement of Jesus ' birth

Thanksgiving
This week Americans and others around the world are going to celebrate Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a holiday that was started over 300 years ago. When Europeans arrived in America , they had a hard time surving. Native Indians taught them how to survive the weather and harsh conditions of their new home. One year after they arrived , the Pilgrims celebrated and had a big feast with their Indian friends. They took the opportunnity to thank God for all he had done in the past year(their new friends , helping them survive, giving them food, etc). Today,Thanksgiving has the same meaning for most of us. We gather all of our friends and family around us and use the time thank God for all He has done.Things to think about

And over all these vitues put on love, which bind all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms , hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. " and Thes 5 : 16 - 18 "

On the fifth day , God created the creatures of the oceans and the birds of the air.God saw that His work was good

saw that His work was Very good After sixth days , God finished creating the world. So , on the seventh , God rested . That was how the world was created.

God created the world in seven days. On the sixth day, He created man and w
oman
God formed man out of the dust from the ground. God breathed into man the breathe of life and man came to life. The man was called Adam. God made a beautiful garden called Eden for Adam to live in . In the garden , God placed every good kind of fruit for food. God also put a tree named " The Tree of Knowledge of Goodand Evil ". God told Adam ," You can eat fruit of every tree, but you can not eat fruit of ' Knowledge of Good and Evil ' or you will die " God saw that Adam was alone and decided to make a helper for him. God make Adam to fall into a deep sleep. While Adam was asleep, God took one of Adam ' s ribs and formed into a woman. The woman ' name was Eve. God brought Eve to Adam. God saw that His work was very good . God told them to be fruitful and multiply and to take of the Garden. Adam and Eve were naked , but they were not ashame.
Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden .They gave names to all animals and birds T
hey took care of the Garden and of animals .
wanted to trick Adam and Eve and temp them to disobey God. One day the snake said to Eve, " Did God tell you to eat fruit from any tree in the Garden ?" Eve answered , " God said we could eat fruit from any tree in the Garden , except for fruit from the one in the middle of the Garden. He told us not to eat fruit from the tree or even touch it . If we do , we will die.
" No, you wo'nt !the snake replied. "God understands what will happen on the day you eat fruitfrom that tree. You will become wise and be like God, knowing right from wrong.
Eve stared at the fruit. It looked beautiful and tasty. She wanted the wisdom that fruit would give her and she ate some fruit. Adam was with her. Eve gave Adam some fruit and he ate it also.Right away, they saw that they had done wrong. They realized that they were naked so they made clothes out of fig leaves.
Latter that afternoon, a soft breeze began to blow . Adam and Eve heard God walking in the Garden. They were
frightened and hid behind some trees.
God called out to Adam and said " Adam, where are you ?"
Adam said, " I was naked, and when I heard you walking through the Garden, I was frightened and so I hid"
God asked Adam," How did you know you were naked. Did you eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil?"
" The woman gave the fruit to me ," Adam answered." It is her fruit"
God asked Eve,"What did you do ?"
Eve replied,"It is the snake's fault. It tricked me and I ate some of the fruit."
Now God was angry at the snake and said,"From today on, you will always crawl on your belly. This woman and her children will always be youe enemies"
Then God said to Eve , " You will have pain when you have children.Your husband will rule over you.you will die. Then God said to Adam,"Because you disobeyed, you will have to struggle to grow enough food. You will have to sweat to earn a living. You will die."
God loved Adam and Eve ; but Adam and Eve had sinned.
God can not be near sin, so He had to send them out of the Garden.God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and Eve. Then He made Adam and Eve leave the Garden. God did not want them to eat of fruit that made them live forever because they know right and wrong. At the entrance to the Garden, God put angels with swords of fire to guard the Garden.
Vocabularies
After God created Adam and Eve, peo
ple began to multiply on the earth As their numbers increased , they began to forget God and they became very evil and wicked. God became very sad and was sorry He created mankind and decided to punish them.
But there was one man who found favor with God. His name was Noah.Because Noah loved God and was obedient to God , God wanted to save him, his wife and three sons ; Shem , Ham , and their families. God decided to destroy the wickedness by covering the whole earth with water. To protect Noah and his family from the flood, God told Noah to build a very large boat called an ark. God gave Noah the exact measurements and plans for constructing the ark. The reason God wanted Noah to build such a large structure was so that Noah could not only have room for his family but also two of every living creature.
Once the boat was built and every one and every thing was on board, God closed the door to the ark and let t
he rain fall for 40 days and 40 nights The earth was filled with water. Noah had to wait a long time for all the water to dry up before he and his family and all the animals could leave the ark.
They were very happy God had saved them and God was very happy they were obedient. God told Noah " to be fruitful and multiply and fill the whole earth ". God also promised Noah He would never flood the Earth again. As a sign of His promise, He sent a beautiful rainbow in the sky. So every time you see a rainbow, remember that God loves you and that He always keeps His promises.

The people said to each other, Let us build a great city. Let us build a tower in that city that will reach into Heaven so that we can make a name for ourselves. Then we will not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.
God looked down and saw the tower, which the men were building. God said, Look what they are doing. They speak the same language and so they all work together. This is only the beginning. Soon they will able to do anything they want.
uote>(God was upset because the men were disobeying God. God had told man to populate the whole earth. They wanted to stay in one place . They were also trying to build a tower that would reach into Heaven, meaning they wanted to live in Heaven)
God said , Let us go down and confuse them by making them speak different languages. Then they will not be able to understand each other. So the people stop building the tower because could not understand each other

Does it sound like the same promise God gave to Abraham and Isaac?
Jacob lived in the same land that his father Isaac did and this is the story of Jacob s family.Jacob had twele sons, but his son Joseph, a gentle and thoughful boy, was his favorite.
Joseph was one of the youngest and was the son of Rachel,Jacob
s very beautiful wife Because Jacob loved Joseph so much he gave him a beautiful coat of many colors. His brothers were envious of him and hated him. They would not be his friend.
Joseph had dreams about his family. In one dream,Joseph dreamt that his brothers were stars, that his father was the sun and that his mother was the moon. The stars, moon ,and sun all bowed down to him. This made Joseph s brothers very angry and jealous. They did not want Joseph to be their boss.
One day, Jacob sent Joseph to find his brothers out in the fields. When they saw him coming, they said, Let s kill him and throw him into a well. Then we can tell father that he was killed by wild animals.
Rueben was Joseph s oldest brother. He did not want Joseph to be killed. He told the brothers not to kill Joseph.Istead, they should just put him in a well and leave him.
Joseph s brothers took away the beautiful coat. When Joseph s brothers had thrown him in
a very dry well, some traders approached.Istead of leaving Joseph to die, they sold him as a slave to the traders for twenty silver pieces. Then they killed a goat and spread its blood on Joseph s beautiful coat. They took the coat to their father and told him a wild animal had eaten Joseph. Josephs brothers had sold Joseph as a slave. When the traders who bought Joseph arrived in Egypt, they sold Joseph to a man named Potiphar. Potiphar was the advisor to Pharoah, the king of Egypt.Joseph worked hard and tried to honor God in all he did.Potiphar saw Joseph good work and place him in charge of the entire house.
Joseph was a handsome man and Potiphar s wife desired him.Even though Joseph ran from her, she lied and told Potiphar that Joseph tried to attack her. Joseph was arrested and was put in
jail for two years for something he did not do.But God did not leave Joseph. The jailer put Joseph in charge of the other prisoners.
While in prison,Joseph met two men.One was the butler of Pharaoh;the other was Pharaoh s baker. Both men had dreams and they asked Joseph if he knew what the dreams meant. God help Joseph to interpret the dreams. Joseph told the baker he was going to die and he told the butler that he was going to return to serving Pharaoh. The dreams came true and everyone was amazed
Pharaoh had a dream also while Joseph was in prison. In the dream,he saw seven fat cows eating grass. The seven thin cows came and ate the seven fat cows. None of Pharaoh s advisors or magicians could tell him what it meant. The butler remembered Joseph in prison and how he had interpreted the dreams.Joseph came and with God s help, Joseph helped Pharaoh understand his dream. Joseph told Pharaoh that Egypt would have seven years of good crop and then s
even years of famine.Joseph suggested that they begin to store food.Pharaoh was impressed and made Joseph the governor of Egypt.
For seven years,Joseph stored food. Then there was famine in Egypt.Joseph used the food he stored to help feed the people.
God never left Joseph even when bad things happened. Joseph always had faith in God.And God always took care of Joseph.
Joseph had been governor of Egypt for seven years when the famine began. There was no food in all of the Middle East except for the food that Joseph had collected and stored in Egypt. When Jacob heard there was food in Egypt,he sent his ten older sons to buy some food.
00ff> When they arrived in Egypt, the brothers asked if they could have food for their family.Joseph recognized them but they did nt recognize Joseph. Joseph accused them of being spies. They said, No,sir,we are just a family of twelve brothers, one is dead and the youngest,Benjamin,is at home with our father
Joseph answered,If you are not spies, prove it and bring your youngest brother to me.One of you will stay and be my prisoner while the others are gone. Joseph put Simeon in jail. Then he gave the other nine brothers sacks of grain.Joseph hid the money that the brothers had used to buy the grain in the sacks. Then he sent the brothers back home to their father Jacob.
As the brothers were traveling , they found the money in their sacks and were very scared. They did not know why the money had been returned to them.
Jacob did not want to send Benjamin to Egypt, but the famine got worse and Jacob s family started to run out of food
again. So, Jacob finally let them take Benjamin back with them as long as they would protect him.
The brothers returned to Egypt with Benjamin. When they were close, a servant came and invited them to dinner at Joseph s home. They were very nervous. When Joseph saw Benjamin, he left the room and began to cry. He returned to dinner and the servants give the brothers new sacks of grain. Then he told one servant to take his cup and put it in Benjamin s bag. Then all eleven brothers left and started back home.
The brothers had not gone very far when Joseph s servant caught them and accused them of stealing a cup.The servants cut open the sacks of grain and found the cup in Benjamin s sack. The brothers were very sad because they did not want anything to happen to Benjamin. They thought God was punishing them for what they did to Joseph many years before. They begged Joseph for Benjamin s life
Joseph saw
that his brothers had changed. They were not selfish anymore. Joseph couldnt take it anymore. He surprised his brothers when he said, I am Joseph, whom you sold into slavery. Do not be afraid. What you meant for evil, God used for good. God brought me to Egypt so that I could help feed many people.
Joseph forgave his brothers and they hugged and kissed each other. Then Joseph told his brothers to go home and get their father Jacob and his entire household and bring them to Egypt to live
Many years after Joseph died , a new Pharaoh ruled over Egypt. This Pharoah saw that Joseph s decendants , called Israelites, were many
in number. Pharaoh was afraid of them.Pharoah ordered that all Israelites should become slaves.
The Isralites had to work very hard. They made bricks out of mud. They built large stone cities. They worked very hard in the fields. They were treated very badly. They prayed and asked God to help them.
One day Pharaoh decided that all the Isralite baby boys should die.Pharaoh did this to keep Isralites from growing in number. He commanded that they be thrown into the river. One baby boy s mother loved him so much she refused to throw him into the river. She kept the baby hidden for three months. Then he was to big to hide.
The baby s mother asked God to help her.God gave her a plan. She made a waterproof basket and put the baby in it. Then she float the basket in the river. Then the baby s mother then asked her daughter to follow the basket. The basket floated down the river.
0ff> Meanwhile, the daughter of Pharaoh went to the river to bathe. She heard a baby crying. She then saw a basket in the bushes. She opened the basket and saw a beautiful baby. She decided to keep it and name it Moses, which means from the water .
At once the baby s older sister came up and asked , Do you want me to get an Israelite woman to take care of the baby for you ?
Yes,Pharaoh daughter answered.
So the girl brought the baby s mother and the king s daughter told her, Take care of this baby and I will pay you. So Moses got to go back home and live with his mother until he was old enough to go and live at the palace.
Questione of the baby for Pharaoh s daughter?
In the land of Egypt , Joseph s descendants were called Israelites. They prayed to God and asked Him not to forget them. God had a plan to set them free.He wanted to use a man named Moses.
Moses grew up as a prince in Egypt. But Moses was a Israelite, just like the slaves. He had been adopted by Pharaohs daughter when he was a baby.
One day, Moses went out to where the Israelites were working. He saw an Egyptain man beating an Israelite.Moses was very angry. He lo
oked around to see if anyone was looking. When he saw no one was watching him, Moses killed the Egyptain man. Then he buried him in the sand.He thought he got away with his crime.
The next day Moses saw two Israelites fighting. So he went to the man that started the fight and asked, Why are you beating up one of your own people?
The man answered, Who put you in charge of us ? Who made you our judge? Are you planning to kill me, just like you killed the Egyptain? This frightened Moses because he was sure that people must have found out what had happened. During these forty years, pharaoh in Egypt died and a new pharaoh became king. He was very cruel to the Israelites slaves. They cried out and prayed to God. God heard their prayers. He had not forgotten them. He decided it was time to help His people.
One day, while taking of the animals on the mountain named Sinai. Moses saw a strange sight. He saw a bush on fire, but it was not burning up. Moses was curious so he moved closer. God spoke to Moses through the burning bush. God said,Moses,do not come any closer. You are standing on holy ground. Take off your shoes. I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham,Isaac and Jacob. Moses covered his face because he was very afraid to look at God.
Then God reminded Moses about the suffering of the Israelites in Egypt. Then God told Moses that God has chosen Moses to go back and free the Israellites from their slavery and to bring them back to their homeland. But Moses was afraid . He said, I am not special. The Israelites will not believe me. I am not a king. Pharaoh will not believe me.
But God said, Moses I chose you. You are special.Tell the Israelites what I have said and they will believe. Show Pharaoh these signs and he will believe.
Then God told Moses to throw down his walking stick. When the stick hit the ground it became a snake. Then Moses pick
ed it up again and it became a walking stick again.
Next God told Moses to put his hand in his coat. When he did this, his hand became covered in a disease called leprosy. Then Moses put his put his hand back in his coat and it healed.
Finally, God said, If Pharaoh still does not believe. Go to the river and get some water. When you pour it out , the water will become blood.
Moses was still scared. He asked God , Are you sure you want me? I dont speak. I am not perfect. Would it not be better to use someone else? But God had chosen Moses. God was angry at Moses excuse. Moses did not want to obey God. God told Moses, Your brother Aaron is coming to meet you. Take him with you. He will speak for you and you will speak for me. Now Go and set my people free !
Moses obeyed God. He took his family towards Egypt. On the way they met Aaron
. Together, they went to Egypt to begin freeing the Israelites.
